RUSSIAN SILVER AND SHADED ENAMEL CARD CASE WITH DEDICATORY INSCRIPTION AS GIFT FROM TSAR NICHOLAS II TO ENRICO CARUSO, MAKER'S MARK 'MC' POSSIBLY MARIA SEMENOVA OR MIKHAIL SOKOLOV possibly maker's mark for Maria Semenova (1st quarter 20th C.) or Mikhail Sokolov (Moscow, 1860-1890) and kokoshnik mark, the exterior of the case decorated in shaded enamel with allover flowers and foliage within blue dotted borders, the interior gilded, the inside of lid with a 18K gold plaque reading 'Nicholas II, Czar of Russia/ presented this box in December 1898 to/ ENRICO CARUSO/ who gave it to his friend/ BRUNO ZIRATO/ who on August 14, 1960/ in Naples, Italy, gave it to/ ARTHUR HOUGHTON, Jr.' - w:3.75 d:2.25 in.
