THREE WEDGWOOD EARTHENWARE PORTRAIT CHARGERS COMMEMORATING THE PEACE OF VERSAILLES, 1919 date codes for 1919, printed and impressed uppercase marks, black painted 25, 21 and 28, retailer's mark for Sloane & Smith Ltd., 462 Oxford Street, London W.1, each polychrome enamel with the portrait of a goddess, the border with a Latin inscription, Britannia before a British flag, inscribed with the British chivalric Order of the Garter motto 'Honi soit qui mal y pense'; Minerva before a French flag, inscribed with the National anthem 'Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite'; and Bellona, the goddess of War, with a banner inscribed '1919 Peace' and with the Latin Psalms, 'Behold how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity', within ochre line rims, dia. 16 3/4 in. and 17 in.
