SOVIET PORCELAIN FIGURE OF AN OLONETS WOMAN BASED ON THE 'PEOPLES OF RUSSIA SERIES'
Russian, mid-to-late 20th Century, after a model by Pavel Kamensky, blue sickle and hammer mark, modeled standing in traditional regional dress, her right hand holding the hem of her headscarf, h: 7.25 in.

This figure is based on an Imperial Porcelain designed of 1897. The series included 146 diverse figures from 74 different ethnic groups. A collection originally preserved in the St. Petersburg Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography, can now be studied in the Imperial Porcelain Factory Museum.

Olonets is a town in Karelia in the northwest of Russia.
