JAPANESE 'NAMBAN' BOWL, EDO PERIOD the circular bowl with high sides decorated to the exterior with a group of Dutchmen on red ground and their 'Black Ship' reserved on a white ground, the interior painted with a central underglaze blue floral roundel enclosed within a band of Dutchmen and another 'Black Ship' all flying a variant of the Dutch flag below a border of underglaze blue keyfret, Buddhistic emblem of two scrolls tied with a tasseled cord under foot, h: 3 x dia: 6 in.
